Michigan GOP Candidate Raises $2 Million

By    |   Monday, 07 Oct 2013 04:46 PM

The political war chest of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land, who is seeking the seat of retiring U.S. Sen. Carl Levin in Michigan, has topped $2 million, The Detroit News reports.

The former Michigan secretary of state says her third-quarter fundraising figures show $2.05 million in contributions, more than half from individuals and the rest from Land herself.

If Land wins next year's election, she will be the first Republican to win a Senate seat in Michigan since 1994, when Spencer Abraham was victorious, the News said.

She'll be facing U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, a Democrat and three-term member of Congress. In his second quarter of fundraising, Peters reported raising more than $1 million
