Actress Meryl Streep said she is "shocked" by Clint Eastwood's public support of Republican Donald Trump for president, adding that she would like to change his mind and bring him over to Hillary Clinton's side.

"I didn't know that," Streep told Variety when asked about Eastwood's recent Trump talk. "I'll have to speak to him. I'll have to correct that! I'm shocked. I really am. Because he's more — I would have thought he would be more sensitive than that."

The pair starred together in the 1995 movie "The Bridges of Madison County."

In an interview with Esquire published last week, Eastwood said that given the choice of Clinton or Trump, he would go for the latter — but he didn't call that an endorsement.

"I haven't endorsed anybody. I haven't talked to Trump. I haven't talked to anybody," Eastwood said.

"I'd have to go for Trump … you know, 'cause she's declared that she's gonna follow in Obama's footsteps. There's been just too much funny business on both sides of the aisle. She's made a lot of dough out of being a politician. I gave up dough to be a politician. I'm sure that Ronald Reagan gave up dough to be a politician."

Streep addressed the recent Democratic National Convention wearing an American flag dress and stressed the significance of Clinton's place in history as the first woman to be a major presidential nominee.
