Meghan McCain Friday pointed to the private meeting between Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton just before the Benghazi report was released as the reason Bernie Sanders is staying in the Democratic primary race.

McCain, the daughter of Arizona Sen. John McCain, said on "Outnumbered" on Fox News:

"If I were [Sanders] right now, I would be on every show saying: 'This is why I’m still in. This is why I’m still doing it. This woman could get indicted. Look what her husband’s doing. He’s trying to grease the rails to make sure nothing happens legally.'

"Bernie Sanders should definitely continue to stay in," McCain said. Her comments were reported by Mediaite.

Lynch and Clinton have been widely attacked for their half-hour meeting on Monday aboard the attorney general's private plane on the tarmac at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix.

The next morning, the special House Benghazi Committee issued its report on the 2012 attacks that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens and two former Navy SEALs.

Clinton's wife, presumptive presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, remains under investigation by the Justice Department for her private email use. She was secretary of state during the Libyan assaults.

Lynch said Friday that she would accept the findings of the Justice Department and FBI Director James Comey in their investigation on the emails.

Bill Clinton appointed Lynch U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York in 1999.

Sanders had not spoken publicly about Monday's meeting.

The Vermont senator has said that he did not expect to become the Democratic nominee and has pledged to attend the party's convention next month in Philadelphia.

He also has vowed to work to defeat presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump in November but has not yet endorsed Hillary Clinton.
