Blackburn: House GOP Delivered 'Great Foundation' on Healthcare

House Republicans are disappointed that their counterparts in the Senate did not move forward with a vote on their healthcare bill, as they were sent "a great foundation to work from," Rep. Marsha Blackburn said Wednesday.

"It was solid," the Tennessee Republican said in a Fox News' "America's Newsroom" interview.

"It was solid. It block grants Medicaid back to the states and makes certain that pre-existing conditions are covered."

Further, she said, House Republicans felt that they had done a "good, solid job that puts us on the path to patient-centered healthcare, and we're ready for the Senate to put their mark on it and get it to us."

House members were willing to stay through the weekend and work on the bill, she continued, and that means the "whole House, as Americans want to see Obamacare off the books.

"You would have seen the whole House say absolutely, let's get this done and to the president's desk," Blackburn said. "It would have been a great Independence Day present."

She said she does believe the Senate will get its bill to a yes vote, even though at least nine Republicans remain against it.

"I have a lot of faith in Sen. [Mitch] McConnell and having the Senate work its will on this," said Blackburn. "I do believe they'll move forward. Would we like to see this as something that is more fair to everyone involved in process, that allows individuals to have access to affordable healthcare up and down the range, absolutely. Do we think we're moving in that direction? Yes, we do."

Blackburn said President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence were key to getting the House bill through, as "he listened."

"The president is a terrific listener and helps individuals kind of work through assessing where they are and what can be done to move them, what kind of nuances can be done," said Blackburn. "Vice President Pence is very good at this also."

She said she also believes that Trump's involvement is where it needs to be with the Senate as well.

"You had senators that were down there yesterday that were working with the White House staff and the president," Blackburn said. "The president, I believe, will continue to work through what we see as the Fourth of July week and will try to get something that can be scored by the CBO and ready for a vote."
