Sen. Marco Rubio said Monday rapper Snoop Dogg made a mistake by filming a music video in which he pretends to assassinate a clown dressed as President Donald Trump.

"Snoop shouldn't have done that. We've had presidents assassinated before in this country, so anything like that is really something people should be very careful about," the Florida Republican told TMZ at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C.

"I think people can disagree on policy, we gotta be very careful about that kind of thing because the wrong person sees that and gets the wrong idea, you can have a real problem. I'm not sure what Snoop was thinking. He should think about that a little bit."

The music video in question was posted Sunday, and it depicts Snoop shooting at a clown who looks like Trump with a toy gun. It also shows a TV that's broadcasting a press conference carrying the headline, "Ronald Klump wants to deport all doggs," airing live from "The Clown House."
