Democrats led by outgoing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are working hard to raise cash to help Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu overcome Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy in their Dec. 6 runoff.

The pitch is that a Landrieu win would make it that much easier for Democrats to reclaim the Senate in 2016, Politico reported.

The decision by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to cut Landrieu's media budget by about $2 million has been panned by her colleagues. She has been left with just 4 percent of the ads airing against 96 percent for Cassidy.

"I just can't believe they would even be conceding. If they are low on cash, raise as much as quickly as you can to help one of the most moderate people that we have in our whole Senate," said West Virginia's Sen. Joe Manchin, who has campaigned in Louisiana for Landrieu.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-North Dakota, said, "We're going to have a discussion about that. I need to better understand the logic or the rationale behind that decision."

Also pulling for Landrieu is Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Politico reported.

Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy said many fellow Democratic senators "will be speaking on Mary's behalf" when they caucus Thursday. "So long as Mary is alive politically, no one should count her out," Politico reported.

Landrieu is facing an uphill battle in the red state. She received 42 percent of the ballots in Louisiana's jungle primary, compared to 40 percent for Cassidy and 14 percent for the tea party-aligned Rob Maness, Time reported.

She stresses that she has been able to win previous runoffs and ought not be counted out as "a lost cause," Politico reported.

Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, is now actively raising money for Landrieu. In a fundraising email he appealed to donors to, "Help us get out the vote in Louisiana – join our moneybomb and support Mary today," the Times-Picayune reported.
