Former acting Attorney General Sally Yates showed "courageous leadership" by leading the Department of Justice for 10 days under President Donald Trump, her predecessor Loretta Lynch said Tuesday.

According to NBC News' Bradd Jaffy, Lynch praised Yates in a statement. Jaffy posted the former attorney general's words on his Twitter account:

Trump fired Yates Monday after she refused to defend his immigration orders that put a temporary halt to people coming to the United States from seven countries with a terror presence. Democrats have cried foul over the firing, but the Trump administration is standing by its decision.

Yates was appointed by former President Barack Obama and was serving as acting AG until Trump's nominee was confirmed. That person, Sen. Jeff Sessions, is still awaiting confirmation.
