Donald Trump's campaign manager Sunday doubled down on the presumptive presidential nominee's scathing attack on New Mexico GOP Gov. Susana Martinez.

Trump chastised Martinez for not doing her job when it came to unemployment, federal food aid and even containing the Syrian refugee crisis while he stumped at a raucous political rally last week in the nation's most Hispanic state. Martinez, who has not endorsed the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, skipped the event in Albuquerque, citing a busy schedule.

In an interview on Fox News Sunday With Chris Wallace, Corey Lewandowski said the campaign "absolutely stands by" the criticism of the Latina governor, which shocked many Republicans. Former presidential candidate Bob Dole told CNN that Trump should apologize.

"Is he (Trump) going to go around to every state saying the Republican governors are notr doing the job," Wallace asked.

"It's not about being a Republican. It's not about being a Democrat. It's about what's right for the country," Lewandowski responded. "It's about the economy...We absolutely stand by our statement that the state of New Mexico could be doing a better job." Lewandowski said that Trump's constituency is focused on jobs and illegal immigration, not politics as usual.

"We have to get your governor to get going," Trump said during the rally last week. "She's got to do a better job, OK?" he said, adding: "Hey, maybe I'll run for governor of New Mexico. I'll get this place going."

Martinez, head of the Republican Governors Association and the nation's only Latina governor, has harshly criticized Trump's remarks on immigrants and has attacked his proposal to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

She has yet to make an endorsement.
