Kellyanne Conway said on Monday that President-elect Donald Trump would welcome a call from Rep. John Lewis to put their rift to rest.

She also defended Trump, telling Greta Van Susteran on MSNBC that Trump "was elected fairly," including in Lewis' state of Georgia, where he won by more than five percent of the votes.

"Let's review for everyone what was said, also, as we are reminding everyone and ourselves that Congressman Lewis is a civil rights and voting icon worthy of respect and his place in history, so no one can take that away from him," she said.

"At the same time, why use the word illegitimate to describe Donald Trump as our president? That's just false. It's regrettable."

The spat between Trump and Lewis started when Lewis, in an interview with NBC, said he doesn't see Trump as a legitimate president following Russian meddling in the election.

"I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton," he said.

Trump swiped back on Twitter, saying Lewis "should finally focus on the burning and crime infested inner-cities of the U.S. I can use all the help I can get!"
