President Barack Obama's penchant for executive orders is leading the government down a dangerous path, and Congress should act to correct it, Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., tells The Daily Caller.

Congress must "step up and take charge and point out when the president is going beyond his constitutional powers," Amash told the Caller. Obama, he said, is "setting the stage for something very dangerous in the future."

The country is going in a "scary" direction, Amash said, and he worries for the future regardless of whether the president is a Democrat or a Republican.

"We have an executive branch that is getting way to powerful, and President Obama is setting the stage for something very dangerous in the future," he said.

Obama has used his executive order powers to nullify parts of the Affordable Care Act that he said needed to be delayed. His Republican critics accused him of taking the actions to avoid political fallout over the botched Obamacare rollout.

In November, he used executive orders to in a takeover of climate change policies. Earlier in 2013, he issued executive orders on gun control in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., school shootings.
