Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst will have a front-and-center speaking slot at the Republican National Convention this month, giving an address focused on national security, reports say.

The booking vaults the freshman senator, who is a retired colonel in the National Guard, into the spotlight as one of the first prominent GOP leaders confirmed to appear in Cleveland, where Donald Trump is expected to be formally nominated.

USA Today
reported her speech will focus on national security, while The New York Times said the address would be delivered during a prime-time slot.

Ernst met Monday with the presumptive presidential nominee, who's in the process of vetting candidates for his vice president.

Ernst shot to fame in her 2014 Senate run by touting her farm experience in castrating hogs.

Trump is expected to release a list of his speakers for the July 18-21 convention in Cleveland on Thursday. According to the Times, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has already told a local television station he'll address the convention.
