Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman says President Barack Obama has failed on the economic front and the country is fiscally in “bad shape.” Huntsman also indicated in an interview broadcast Sunday
on CNN’s “State of the Union" that he was about a “week and a half away” from announcing his entry into the presidential race.
“On the economic side, there are no signs of success, very little,” Huntsman told CNN’s Candy Crowley. “You look at unemployment, you look at the environment in which jobs supposedly can be created, when you look at the debt level and you look at all the economic indicators, it would suggest that we're in bad shape.”
Huntsman — who until recently served Obama as U.S. ambassador — was speaking in New Hampshire, where CNN is sponsoring a debate on Monday among potential Republican presidential candidates; Huntsman is not participating.
“There will be plenty of debates,” he said. “We'll be in more debates than I think anyone will be able to stomach at the end of the exercise.
Huntsman said he has only a few more things to settle before he announces.
“We’ve only been at it five weeks, and we’ve moved about as fast as you can move," Huntsman said. “And then we passed that mile barrier, and then you’re in and you do everything that needs to be done from there.”
