Ohio Gov. John Kasich has hired two senior Republican advisers who worked on Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign to play key roles in his campaign for his GOP bid, which is expected to be officially announced in July.

According to multiple sources, John Weaver and Fred Davis have been tapped for the Kasich campaign, reports The Washington Post.

Weaver, who is based in Texas, will serve as Kasich's senior strategist. He worked in McCain's campaigns in 2000 and 2008, and along with Davis worked on behalf of former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. in his 2012 campaign.

Davis, an ad maker based in California, will serve as the lead media consultant for Kasich's super PAC. He and Weaver were chosen, in part, because of the work they did for Michigan Republican Gov. Rick Snyder, a source told The Post.

Weaver and Davis have been in talks with the Kasich team for several weeks about assuming senior roles, the Post reports.

Kasich, a fiscal conservative, won re-election in Ohio in the fall by an overwhelming margin and previously served for 18 years in the House, where he chaired the Budget Committee.
