There'll soon be a resumption of daily televised White House news briefings – because President Donald Trump "likes ratings," Newsmax's chief political columnist and White House correspondent John Gizzi predicted Sunday.

In an interview on CNN's "Reliable Sources," Gizzi said the president is a savvy media analyst – and the recent White House reliance on off-camera briefings doesn't attract the same kind of attention.

"I will predict here and now… that within a month, it will change back to televised daily briefings," he said.

"The president likes ratings," Gizzi added, explaining that when members of the Trump administration appeared in recent briefings "on each of those days, the camera went on" and "the ratings went up."

"And guess what, networks besides CSPAN and Fox ended up covering those press conferences live," he added. "You don't get that kind of coverage in normal circumstances.

"And I would say if the president wants his voice heard, it would be wise to go back to on-camera every day."

Gizzi also said Trump should have had a news conference at the end of the G-20 Summit as well, "and certainly should have at least had a second press conference by now with those of us who cover him."

"He has now gone the longest of any president without more than one news conference since the present format was established by Franklin Roosevelt and his press secretary early in 1933," he added.
