Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., released the latest volume of his government wastebook, titled "PORKémon Go," highlighting 50 examples of questionable spending.

Flake targets scientific studies, such as $1.5 million in grants through the National Science Foundation to test fish on treadmills, which the senator addressed during a recent appearance on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"Well, this is a $1.5 million-dollar study," Flake said of the experiment. "It's part of a treadmill studies we had monkeys on a treadmill last year, we've had shrimp on a treadmill before and obviously some people want to know what happens when these fish get on a treadmill.

"But don't we have better things to spend money on is I think the question most Americans have."

He also mentioned "a $5 million study to find out that fraternities and sororities actually drink a lot and that when they do, they tend to sleep longer into that day."

Flake also scrutinized West Virginia University for a $3.5 million study into fear of dentists.

"With the possibilities ranging from having teeth scraped, filled or pulled, it is not surprising patients feel some anxiety about spending time in the dentist's chair. But as scary as those may sounds, a recent survey found Americans have a higher opinion of root canals than Congress," the report said.

"We just spent $450,000 on a study to find out if dinosaurs could actually sing," he told "Fox & Friends" program.

"And guess what? The record is a little bit fuzzy there. It's tough to see the vocal cords because they're not really skeletal. So didn't conclude much, but they're spending a lot of money to determine whether or not dinosaurs can sing. They did conclude they probably did make noises like that."
