Bush Team Recording All Private Events

As former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush lays the groundwork for a presidential bid in 2016, his team has taken to recording his performance at all of his private events so as to refute any false rumors or reports to the press mischaracterizing his comments.

According to National Journal, recordings are being made and retained by aides at all of his private fundraisers across the country where policy positions are often being discussed.

"We want to have a full record of his comments," Tim Miller, a senior adviser to Bush's Right to Rise PAC, told the Journal. "Full information awareness."

The Bush team has already begun making use of the tapes, sending The New York Times a recording to set the record straight on comments he made about Indiana's religious freedom law this week.

"An audiotape of Mr. Bush's remarks in California were provided to The New York Times by his aides, after donors had characterized what he said," the Times reported.

Miller pointed to it as an example of why the recordings are being made.

"We tape as much as possible in large part for the reason it was used yesterday," Miller told the Journal. "People mischaracterize what he said to the media and others."

The tapings are also an acknowledgement that in the age smart phones, there are no longer events that can be classified as off the record, the Journal said.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker ran into problems last week when The Wall Street Journal reported comments he had made on immigration at a private dinner with New Hampshire Republicans.

The newspaper reported that three sources said he had backtracked on his opposition to allowing illegal immigrants to remain in the country and have a pathway to citizenship.

Walker's team strongly refuted the account but did not provide recorded evidence to the contrary.
