Jeb Bush's presidential campaign fired its harshest attacks yet on Republican rival Sen. Marco Rubio Monday, with top advisers telling a meeting of wealthy donors that "Marco is a GOP Obama."

The assault came during a 45-slide PowerPoint presentation to a group of donors in Houston, The Hill reports.

The shots at Rubio were taken by Bush campaign manager Danny Diaz, which "suggests that Bush's team views his fellow Floridian as its most serious rival in the establishment lane for the Republican nomination," The Hill notes.

"Rubio and President [Barack] Obama have strikingly similar profiles: first-term senators, lawyers and university lecturers, served in part-time state legislatures for eight years, had few legislative accomplishments, and haven't shown much interest in the process of advancing legislation and getting results," The Hill quotes the presentation as stating.

The campaign also cited several other reasons for the donors to support Bush over Rubio.

"[Bush] aides argued that in a match-up against [Hillary] Clinton, Bush would win according to a September Quinnipiac University poll, and win a higher percentage of the Hispanic vote than Rubio," Time.com reports.

"Another slide, titled 'those closest to Marco choose Jeb,' notes that Bush has cleaned up among Florida lawmaker endorsements, while Rubio has struggled to win over support," Time's Zeke Miller writes.

Although outsider GOP presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ben Carson are topping the polls at the moment, the Bush team touted its strong support on Capitol Hill to the wealthy donors.

"Jeb has more endorsements from Members of Congress than any other candidate in the race, including the four sitting U.S. Senators running," the presentation asserted, The Hill reports.
