Chaffetz Expects 'Barnburner of an Address' From Trump

President Donald Trump will probably deliver a "barnburner of an address" for his first joint Congressional speech Tuesday night, Rep. Jason Chaffetz said Tuesday, but he hopes overall, lawmakers can show a united front.

"When you get Democrats and Republicans, it is sort of a melodrama, right?" the Utah Republican said during a Fox News "America's Newsroom" interview. "People are standing up. Other people are sitting on their hands. Some are clapping."

He does hope, though, that the members of Congress show unity when the discussion turns to foreign policy and the military.

"We have to show the United States of America means business, and that we've got each other's back, no matter which party we're on. For our military, that's very important."

Meanwhile, Chaffetz said that Trump as president has been "disruptive," but it's not a bad thing.

"You have a president that's wholly engaged," Chaffetz said. "He has his shirts sleeves rolled up, pushing the agenda faster than Congress, House and Senate can go, which is a good thing. He is a disruptive president, which is what the country wanted and what I welcome."

Chaffetz, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, also commented on the ongoing discussions over the investigation into Russia's involvement in the 2016 election, and said he believes it's best that the House Intelligence Committee lead out the probe.

"We're going to be looking at Gen. [Michael] Flynn and his going to Russia or being paid to interact with the Russians, even though he was not in the military, wasn't in the Trump administration," Chaffetz said. "That's something we're curious about. Of course they should look at it and the Intel committee is doing that and leading it out."
