Rep. Gowdy Troubled Comey Didn't Mention Leak Investigation

The "most troubling part" of FBI Director James Comey's testimony Tuesday, Rep. Trey Gowdy said, was his not mentioning an investigation into the leaks coming from President Donald Trump's administration.

"I think the most troubling part for me is when Director Comey would not assure us that there's a leak investigation," the South Carolina Republican said on "Fox & Friends" Tuesday. "He was more than happy to assure us that there's an investigation into the potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia — which may or may not be a crime. The leaking of classified information is a crime, but he would not confirm that investigation."

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, Gowdy included, specifically note the case of former national security advisor Mike Flynn, whose stint ended due to a leak from inside the administration.

"I'm trying to help the public, and Director Comey, kind of narrow down the universe of people who would have had access to that information to then leak it," Gowdy said.

"Out of the 320 million people in our country, there aren't that many that would've had access to the information," Gowdy said that same day on "Mornings with Maria." "So narrow the universe. Go interview the people. Phone records are helpful, email records are helpful – the same way you'd investigate any other crime. But you've got to want to do it. And you've got to view it seriously.

"He said he viewed it seriously. We'll see."
