Huckabee: Bill Clinton 'Doesn't Have The Magic That He Once Had'

Former President Bill Clinton has lost his "magic," according to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

"Look, let's keep in mind, the last time he was on the ballot was 20 years ago," Huckabee told Fox News on Thursday. “And if somebody voted, you know, let's say in 1996 and there were 18, they were casting their first vote, they are 38-years old, they probably got three kids and they're well into their careers. That's a long time. In political terms, that's a lifetime. And there are a lot of voters. Think of all those people under the age of 38, they've never seen Bill Clinton on the ballot.

"And you see the numbers of the crowds – they don't show up for Bill Clinton. And you know, in all honestly, and he's still effective in some ways, but he doesn't have that magic that he once had at the podium."

Recently Bill Clinton took fundraising duties from his wife Hillary Clinton, who was forced to rest and recover from a bout of pneumonia. Although Clinton's campaign team was happy to have a former president filling in, other supporters weren't so pleased.

"We need to hear directly from the candidate at this point in the election," a member of the Democratic National Committee and longtime Clinton supporter told Politico. "It’s nice to have him, but the only real surrogate who works at this point is President Obama."

Some Democrats told Politico that Bill Clinton ranked lower than both Barack and Michelle Obama in terms of value, on the same level as Vice President Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton's running mate Sen. Tim Kaine, and Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.

"When you see Bill Clinton, the first thing you think of is not Hillary, it's not tomorrow — it's the former president and yesterday," the DNC member continued. "He can go and raise money, but in terms of what she is going to do as president — she needs to be making that case. I'm voting for Hillary. I'm not voting for Bill."
