Mike Huckabee believes the death of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) will lead charged-up Democrats to crusade for a national, single-payer system.

"The failure of House Republicans to pass an Obamacare repeal and replacement bill has jazzed up liberals to start their call for what they've really wanted all along: single-payer government health care," the former Arkansas governor and two-time GOP presidential candidate writes on his Facebook page.

"But with healthcare already unaffordable and the government having amassed staggering debt, where would you get the money? That would just be replacing one problem with an even bigger problem."

House leaders withdrew their plan to replace the Affordable Care Act just minutes before a scheduled vote on Friday when it was determined the AHCA vote couldn't pass because of a deeply-divided GOP.

On Saturday, independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont told a crowd at town hall meeting Saturday that he plans to introduce in the Senate a "Medicare for all" bill soon.

Single-payer is a system in which the government rather than private insurers, pay for healthcare costs, such as is the case in Canada.
