Howard Kurtz to Fox: 'Smart Move' to Cut Ties With Ben Carson

By    |   Monday, 10 Nov 2014 02:03 PM

Whether or not Ben Carson is running for president, the airing of an hour-long documentary about the famed neurosurgeon and conservative rising star was enough for Fox News to amicably end the network's relationship with him.

The decision won applause from media columnist and host of Fox News' "MediaBuzz" Howard Kurtz, who called it a "smart move" to break its relationship with someone "who is more or less running for president."

The decision by Fox stems from reports of a paid biography.

At issue was Carson's featured role in a documentary titled "A Breath of Fresh Air: A New Prescription for America," which ran in 22 states and the District of Columbia over the weekend.

News of the video was first broken Thursday by the Washington Times.

Fox News ran a story about the documentary in which it was confirmed that the network had severed its ties with Carson.

In his commentary on the Carson-Fox News breakup, Kurtz said there are now questions about the network and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who has a self-titled prime-time weekend show.

The "Huckabee" host has said he is "seriously considering" running for president in 2016.

"I'd be dishonest and disingenuous to say, 'Oh, no, it has never crossed my mind.' It has very much crossed my mind. I'm very seriously contemplating whether I should make another go in '16. There are some encouraging signs, and some of them are right here in Iowa. But it's a big step, and not one that I want to take until after we get through this election cycle," Huckabee said in October, according to KTIV.com.

Huckabee won the 2008 Iowa Republican caucuses.
