A number of high-profile Republican House incumbents are battling for their political lives in the midst of one of the most turbulent presidential races in American history.

Politico reports that among those whose futures may be on the ropes in primary battles as Americans reject so-called establishment candidates, are Reps. Louis Gohmert, Kevin Brady and Lamar Smith of Texas, and Reps. Martha Roby and Bradley Byrne of Alabama.

As well, there is a "mess of Republican-on-Republican fighting," which includes a race between Reps. George Holding and Renee Ellmers in North Carolina, Politico says.

The turmoil has deepened as Donald Trump this week solidified his position as the Republican presidential front-runner, soundly beating Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz in the GOP Nevada caucuses.

Trump now appears poised to win big in next week's Super Tuesday primaries, during which more delegates can be won than on any other day of the presidential primary calendar.

CNN's Political Prediction Market says Trump's odds for clinching the GOP nomination have rocketed to 68 percent, with Rubio in second place with odds of 28 percent.
