Reince Priebus referenced the gridiron when talking about the House's passage of the American Health Care Act Thursday.

"It's a great first step," the White House chief of staff told The Hill. "The president stepped up, and helped punt the ball into the end zone. We are lucky to have President [Donald] Trump in charge. I feel great."

The House passed the AHCA by a simple majority 217-213. The successful vote came more than a month after House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., was forced to cancel a planned vote on the measure because the bill lacked the support.

Following weeks of negotiations and cutting deals, Trump and House Republicans secured enough support to get the bill through the chamber and over to the Senate.

Ryan called the bill's passage on his floor "an important step" toward the GOP's goal of repealing and replacing the current Obamacare law.
