Holder: Law Not Always Followed in Terror Fight

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Attorney General Eric Holder says that some people who were engaged in the battle against terrorism did not remain faithful to the law.

Holder was speaking Wednesday at a conference at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

In prepared remarks, the attorney general praised the work of military lawyers who defended the rights of terror suspect detainees and stood up to Bush administration officials at the risk of their own careers.

Holder says those military lawyers should serve as an example to the rest of the country.

Holder says officials still haven't decided how to handle the toughest cases at the Guantanamo Bay detention center, but he adds that it is neither soft nor naive to adhere to international standards on prisoner treatment.
