Scarborough to Hillary, Jeb: 'If You're Going to Run, Run'

By    |   Monday, 15 Sep 2014 09:48 AM

Talk show host Joe Scarborough expressed exasperation with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her continued teasing about whether or not she's running for president in 2016.

With the nation facing problems on both the domestic and international fronts, Scarborough told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that Clinton should make a decision, rather than skirt the issue, as she did again over the weekend at an Iowa fundraiser.

"If you're going to run, run, and give us new ideas that help us face the next 25 years," Scarborough, a former Florida congressman, said Monday. "We have enough crises, that maybe playing it safe — maybe we need a politician that doesn't just sit back and act like a robot."

Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, on Sunday attended an annual steak fry fundraiser in Indianola, Iowa, hosted by retiring Sen. Tom Harkin. It was her first visit to the state since she ran for president in 2008.

Calling a possible run for the White House in 2016 "that other thing," Clinton told the crowd of approximately 5,000 people, "It is true I am thinking about it," though she said her purpose there was to help Democratic candidates running for office in this fall's midterm elections.

Scarborough said Clinton had been "a robot for two years here, playing it safe, writing books, telling us absolutely nothing."

He said she was interested in having people ask her to run for the White House rather than speaking about the threats facing the country, such as the terrorist group the Islamic State (ISIS), which has recently beheaded two American journalists.

"Going to Iowa, doing absolutely nothing, and just begging people to beg her to run for president of the United States or not, while people are getting their heads carved off. This is not a game. This is not some little chess match. This is something that actually matters," he said.

Scarborough made the same plea to his "favorite politician," former Republican Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, to announce a decision, and expressed frustration with both the Clinton and Bush families, who have dominated national politics for over two decades.

"Hey, Jeb, if you're going to run, run," he said. "Come on, Mr. Savior of the Republican Party. If you're the savior of the Republican Party, then get out there, or listen to your mom and just stay home. But, stop having it both ways."

Scarborough said the calculated approach by politicians to run for office was "why Americans hate politics," adding Clinton had showed she had "no creativity, no spontaneity, nothing from the heart."
