Scarborough: 'Everything' Clinton Said Defending Email 'Just a Lie'

(MSNBC's "Morning Joe")

Hillary Clinton's defense of her use of a private email server was all lies, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said Friday, while a panel on his "Morning Joe" program agreed with his contention that her comments were "mind boggling."

"I mean, I don't want to be negative, I really don't, but that was just mind-boggling," Scarborough said, after a clip was shown with Clinton telling of her testimony before the Benghazi Committee and how her use of email was allowed.

"It's been clearly public and my email use was widely known in the department throughout the government," the Democratic frontrunner said on Thursday, while admitting it was "a mistake" but that she has "provided all of my work-related emails and I've asked they be made public… I think that demonstrates that I wanted to make sure that this information was part of the official records."

When the clip ended, Scarborough declared that "everything she said in there was just a lie."

"Does she not have anybody around her that can tell her, we have to stop lying about this?" said Scarborough. "I mean, it was allowed by the State Department? No, it was not allowed by the State Department."

The State Department, he continued, said "'we didn't know, but if we did know, we wouldn't allow her to do it.' She sent out directives in 2011 saying, 'Don't do it the way I'm doing it,' basically. In 2009, there was a federal regulation as far as record-keeping goes, passed across the entire government."

And such statements don't help her maintain an impression of being honest or trustworthy, said Scarborough.

"She's just not telling the truth," he said. "Her own State Department said, 'You're not telling the truth.' It would be better for her politically to say I screwed up and I'm really sorry. Why can't they do it?"

Politico co-founder Jim Vandehei agreed, saying it would be better if Clinton would admit she "screwed-up," a statement show co-host Mika Brzezinski corrected.

“You know, Jim Vandehei, this is more than a screw-up, right?" she asked him. "I mean, that's what she should say. But, you understand this is far more problematic than a screw-up."

Clinton's camp has also called former Secretary of State Colin Powell's use of email into question, and Scarborough called that "sad and pathetic."
