Brzezinski to Hillary: Enough of the Liz Warren Mimicry

Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" says that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's "everyday American" campaign theme sounds too much like the populist message of Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

"It's a great message, but, if this is really going to resonate with people, it has to stop sounding like she talked to Elizabeth Warren on the phone, and then repeated everything Elizabeth Warren said," Brzezinski said Wednesday morning.

"I wish she had said this a little bit before the two of them met, and before people started talking about Elizabeth Warren," she added.

Clinton said during an appearance in Iowa Tuesday that she's "running for president because I think Americans and their families need a champion and I want to be that champion."

"I want to believe it, I guess is my point, that that is her message," Brzenzski said. "It's a great message."

Sam Stein of The Huffington Post told the "Morning Joe" hosts that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who is also running for president, is also pushing a populist message.

David Ignatius of The Washington Post said that Clinton has to "find her own way" to convey a populist message and "that may sound like Elizabeth Warren."

Brezinski concluded that to do that "[Clinton] has to crush some of the very forces who have supported her along the way that don't fit into this message."
