Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign spent about 40 percent of the $47 million it raised in the first quarter of this year, which translates into hundreds of hires, detailed polling statistics, and other expenses.

The Washington Post breaks down the figures, which detail the almost $19 million the campaign has shelled out since Clinton announced her candidacy in mid-April.

Clinton's campaign, according to the data in the Post report, has taken in the most money of any candidate in the presidential race after the candidate declared his or her intention to run.

A distant second is Clinton's fellow Democrat and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders ($15.1 million), followed by Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz ($14.3 million). Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, another Republican, is not far behind with a campaign haul of $12.1 million.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, the leading Republican candidate in most national polls, has taken in $11.4 million since he joined the race for the White House on June 15. But Bush took in a massive pile of cash, totaling more than $100 million, before he joined the race, mostly through his Super PAC.

According to NBC News, 61 percent of the donations to Clinton's campaign have come from women, and more than 250,000 people have given the campaign money.

The website reports the campaign also took in nearly $825,000 to be used for the general election, should she survive the primary season.

The average donation to the Clinton campaign thus far, according to NBC, is about $145.

In contrast to the big spending has been the Clinton campaign's desire to host small campaign events that better appeal to everyday voters. The campaign, however, has offices in 25 cities and boasts a 340-person staff, along with almost 60 local organizers, reports the Post.

Some experts have said Clinton's campaign appears in trouble. She has been plagued by scandals this year around her use of a private email address and server during her time as secretary of state, emails related to the 2012 Benghazi attacks, and issues with her family's charitable foundation.

Other experts have said the campaign should be worried about Sanders' recent surge in the polls — which also has the Clinton camp concerned.
