Sen. Susan Collins, a Maine Republican, said Wednesday she wants former national security adviser Michael Flynn to testify to the Senate Intelligence Committee about any ties between the Donald Trump presidential campaign and Russia, Politico reported.

The committee, of which Collins is a member, also requested last week all records relating to the probe be preserved.

"We've asked all of the agencies and campaign officials involved to preserve all documents, all emails, all text messages that could be in any way relevant to the investigation," Collins told Maine Public Radio's "Maine Calling."

Flynn resigned Feb. 13 after it was revealed he misled Vice President Mike Pence over the content of his communications with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak after Trump's election victory, but before his inauguration.

Collins said Flynn's testimony would focus on the panel's probe into possible Russian interference in the presidential election.

She said she would also be willing to consider subpoenaing Trump's tax returns to see whether he has business ties to the country. Trump has said he has none.

"I don't know whether we will need to do that," Collins said. "If it's necessary to get to the answers, then I suspect that we would."
