With just one week to go between the hotly contested special House election in Georgia between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel, a super PAC affiliated with the House GOP leadership is launching its last television ad, The Hill reported on Tuesday.

The ad is part of the Congressional Leadership Fund CLF's $7 million investment in the race, which has received national attention for what many have portrayed as an early indication of the forces for and against President Donald Trump.

The special election was made necessary when Tom Price resigned his seat in a district encompassing the northern suburbs of Atlanta after Trump picked him to become secretary of Health and Human Services.

It has become the most expensive House race in American history.

The television ad accuses Ossoff of avoiding the tough question by declining to participate in a debate, criticizing him for living outside the district he wants to represent, and belittling his national security credentials.

AJC.com points out, however, that Ossoff already participated in two debates with Handel last week, while the candidates could not agree on the timing, schedule or rules of other proposed dates.

There is also speculation that Ossoff wanted to stay away from a debate hosted by CNN, because he is trying to keep his message local, while leaving it to others to depict his campaign as a protect against Trump.

Regarding the fact that Ossoff does not live in the district, the candidate says he resides only a few miles away and plans to move back to the district when his fiancé finishes medical school.

The latest survey, released on Tuesday, shows a tie between the two candidates at 47 percent, with 6 percent undecided, according to an 11Alive poll conducted by Survey USA.

A similar poll three weeks ago had Ossoff  7 percentage points ahead of Handel.
