Gingrich: 'Aggressive Reformer' Trump Driving Left 'Crazy'

President Donald Trump is going to be a "very aggressive reformer," and his reforms will "drive the left crazy," including former President Barack Obama, ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday.

"The entire left is embattled; they are outraged," Gingrich told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "They are under siege. They are terrified, they don't know what to do. They were so sure they were going to win that they're just totally disoriented, and [Obama] is part of that general movement."

On Monday, Obama broke his silence on political issues for the first time after leaving the White House by praising those protesting Trump's immigration orders and saying, through spokesman Kevin Lewis, that Obama "fundamentally disagrees with the notion of discriminating against individuals because of their faith or religion."

"The truth is that President Obama is part of the left," Gingrich said Tuesday. "He is not a traditional president. He is a leading figure in a movement which is right now losing ground very rapidly."

Former Presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush "felt they owed it to the dignity of the office" to refrain from commenting on their successors, said the former speaker.

"Even if they disagreed deeply, they thought it was not the job of an ex-president or former president to be engaged," said Gingrich. "Obama is in a totally different place."

Gingrich, though, said he hopes Obama continues to speak so that "newer, younger people don't get a shot."

"I would be delighted to run against the Elizabeth Warren, George Soros wing of the Democratic Party and have no new person emerge," said Gingrich.

The former speaker also criticized people who have termed Trump's immigration order as an "inconvenience," calling that a "crazy word."

"Were people being killed in a nightclub in Orlando inconvenient?" said Gingrich. "Were people being killed in San Bernardino at a Christmas party inconvenient?

"It really bothered me that [Senate Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer could bring up a few tears for people not being killed, not being shot, not being imprisoned, simply held at airport, that brought tears? Four thousand Americans being shot, over 700 killed in Chicago, that didn't bring Chuck Schumer to tears? It didn't bring [Mayor] Rahm Emanuel to tears?"

Trump feels his first duty is to protect Americans, Gingrich continued, but "for liberal Democrats, that somehow doesn't ever seem to be their first duty."

Meanwhile, the left owns much of the media and Hollywood, and gets on "emotional roller coasters," Gingrich said, but they are "deeply concerned" about the week's hot story "until they forget about it."

Trump is set to name his Supreme Court justice nominee Tuesday night, and Schumer will be sure to say that person is "too far to the right," said Gingrich.

"Well, bologna," Gingrich commented. "My view is that the Democrats had better find enough votes to approve this guy or I think [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell will change the rules."
