A theme that appears to be emerging from the town hall meetings Republican congressmen are having during their recess is in the reception they're receiving back in their districts, with those lawmakers who opposed changes offered in the GOP plan to replace Obamacare being met more favorably back in their districts.

Some moderate Republicans who supported the GOP plan, known as Trumpcare, are facing blowback while the more conservative members of the Freedom Caucus appear on the winning side for blocking the GOP healthcare plan, according to online news media outlet Axios.

Two examples illustrate what may be the broader scope of how this divide is playing out by the reception two Republicans received back in their districts — moderate Colorado Rep. Mike Coffman, who supported Trumpcare, and Florida Rep. Ron DeSantis, a Freedom Caucus member who opposed it.

Coffman was attacked at his town hall meeting by both liberals angry at his support for Trumpcare and disappointed Republican constituents who viewed the GOP plan as making Obamacare worse.

By contrast, many of DeSantis' constituents supported his opposition to the GOP plan, viewing it as a bad healthcare bill.

"I think, quite frankly, most voters in this district were happy with how I explained the problems with the bill," DeSantis told Axios. "Most of the Republicans who were here didn't think it was a good bill, and obviously the Democrats don't want to do anything that deals with Obamacare in that way.

"My sense is they're more frustrated with how the bill was created and what it didn't do," DeSantis added.

Moderate Republicans may have more at stake in supporting any new changes to the current healthcare law, Axios suggested, while the Freedom Caucus may see themselves gaining strength in standing up to the Republican leadership.
