Huckabee: Time for Comey to Go If He's Leveraging Information

Fox News' "America's Newsroom"

FBI Director James Comey has assumed a dangerous political position, and if he is using the information he has to leverage power, then it is "time for him to go," former Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., said Thursday while agreeing with New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin.

"James Comey has assumed a position no one else should assume," Huckabee told Fox News' "America's Newsroom," noting there was a time people in Comey's position pressured politicians, and it was "dangerous."

"This is how other countries work that are totalitarian, and if he is going to use both sides and play politics and use information he has to leverage for power, then I think it's time for him to go," Huckabee said.

In his column, Goodwin wrote Comey's "aggressive self-righteousness makes him bigger than the institution he leads and everybody in Washington knows crossing him could be dangerous to your career."

Further, Goodwin wrote, Comey has outdone anything infamous FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover did, as he investigated both presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Comey, though, said in a speech during a Boston cybersecurity conference he is not planning to go anywhere, promising "you're stuck with me for about another six-and-a-half years," Politico reported. He also said he was "slippery" and would not answer questions from the press if they were about subjects he did not want to address.

"He's very slippery on that, I'll agree, he has been," Huckabee said Thursday. "Something has happened to James Comey from the person people knew. It's unfortunate, but it's time for him to go. I don't care what he says."

Meanwhile, Huckabee said he believes President Donald Trump's claims Trump Tower was wiretapped will be vindicated.

"I think this thing stinks bigger than the hog barn at the Iowa State Fair," Huckabee said, noting even former CIA and NSA Director Michael Hayden "says they might have" wiretapped the offices.

"Here's what we know," Huckabee said. "Information was being shared from the [Barack] Obama administration to the Clinton campaign . . . that ought to be looked at and investigated. I think we'll find Donald Trump will be vindicated and the Obama administration will be vilified when the facts come out."
