Top environmental activists are definitely not "ready for Hillary," as they prepare to open a strong grass-roots movement to encourage Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren to challenge her from the left for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Ready for Warren, a group already pushing the reluctant freshman senator to run, is set to launch Environmental Activists for Warren with some of the biggest national green groups on board, the National Journal reported Monday, a day after Clinton opened her presidential campaign on social media.

"The launch expected to take place later this month is the latest sign that environmentalists fear that Hillary Clinton . . . won't take a strong stand on the issues they care most about," the Journal noted, citing an earlier report in the same newspaper.

Environmental Activists for Warren includes members of the Environmental Defense Fund, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace USA, the League of Conservation Voters, and the Sierra Club, but the groups themselves have not endorsed any candidate, the Journal reported.

Warren has repeatedly said she has no plans to run for the nomination, but her supporters believe she is still open to a draft movement should Clinton's campaign falter.

Clinton, already hit by a key public opinion poll that found her dishonest and untrustworthy, is facing opposition on the left that goes beyond environmentalists.

Labor leader Larry Cohen, president of the powerful Communications Workers of America, joined Greenpeace USA executive director Annie Leonard earlier this month to issue an open letter in support of Warren.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio on Sunday withheld an endorsement of Clinton, a former U.S. senator from New York, saying he wants see a "vision" of her positions on issues important to the left.

New York's Working Families Party on Sunday again appealed to Warren to run, just minutes after Clinton opened her campaign.

"The debate in this presidential campaign needs to be centered on working families' values," Bill Lipton, the party's New York State director, said in an email.

"That's why we continue to encourage Senator Warren to join the field."
