Ex-Obama Campaign Workers Urge Sen. Warren to Run

By    |   Friday, 12 Dec 2014 01:09 PM

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is being called to run for president in 2016 on the Democrat ticket by more than 300 of President Barack Obama's former campaign staffers.

"We believed in an unlikely candidate who no one thought had a chance," the group wrote on the Ready for Warren website.

"We organized like no campaign had organized before — and won the Democratic primary. We built a movement — and the country elected the first-ever African-American president," they said.

The petition to Warren is signed by Obama's 2008 and 2012 campaign workers as well as Organizing for America, Organizing for Action, Democratic National Committee delegates, and GOTV employees.

"Rising income inequality is the challenge of our times, and we want someone who will stand up for working families and take on the Wall Street banks and special interests that took down our economy," the group added.

According to The New York Times, this endorsement marks a departure from other high level Obama campaign staffers, who have joined efforts to have former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton represent the Democrat Party in the presidential race in 2016.

"These former Obama staffers are joining the growing momentum behind Elizabeth Warren because we believe in Warren's vision for our country, and we'd love to see her run in 2016," said Erica Sagrans, who is the Northeast Digital Director for Organizing for America and a staffer from Obama's 2012 campaign.
