Conway: Hillary, Not Russia, Propelled Us to WH

Fox News' "Special Report"

White House counsel Kellyanne Conway said the Trump campaign did not have to turn to Russia for harmful news on Hillary Clinton — she provided it all on her own.

In an interview Tuesday on Fox News' "Special Report" with Bret Baier, Conway — President Donald Trump's campaign manager – pushed back at The Washington Post report Trump dictated a misleading statement for his eldest son Donald Trump Jr. regarding his controversial meeting with a Russian lawyer in June 2016.

Trump Jr., along with the president's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner, and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort attended the meeting after Trump Jr. was told the lawyer had damaging information about Clinton.

"Look, I was the campaign manager for the winning part of the campaign, and if I needed negative information about Hillary Clinton, I look no further than Hillary Clinton," Conway told host Baier.

The remark comes at the 2:48-minute mark.

"You certainly didn't need to go to Moscow," Conway said. "You could just see what she was saying everyday. No optimistic economic message for America."

As for the Post report on the president's drafting a statement for Trump Jr. about the meeting, Conway said there was nothing nefarious about the president's involvement.

"The president weighed in because father's do that," Conway said – echoing a statement from White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
