Former DNC Chairman: Wasserman Schultz Should Skip Convention

Debbie Wasserman Schultz shouldn't attend the Democratic National Convention "for her own good," says her predecessor, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, according to Politico

"Because it's going to be messy when she gets up there," Rendell, who chaired the Democratic National Committee during the 2000 election, said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" television show.

According to Rendell, Wasserman Schultz is "very single-minded" and "very dedicated," but can be "very stubborn and she wants to see this thing through."

Wasserman Schultz, a U.S. representative from Florida, announced on Sunday that she would step down as chairwoman of the DNC after the convention.

"Going forward, the best way for me to accomplish those goals (which include electing Clinton president) is to step down as Party Chair at the end of this convention," Wasserman Schultz said in a statement, according to CNN.

Although Rendell admitted the DNC favored Hillary Clinton over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders during the primary campaign, he said that the committee didn't "affect the outcome much."

"They're pretty ineffectual . . . the DNC is by nature ineffectual in a primary. There's not much they can do," Rendell said. "When they get Bernie for using the voter files for a couple days, the Sanders campaign obviously did something that was wrong, but that wasn't the remedy. That wasn't the remedy. Look, you have to not only be fair, but you have to have the appearance of being fair. It's very important, and it can't be minimized."

Rendell referred to an incident last December, when members of Sanders' campaign staff took advantage of a computer glitch in the DNC's software to view voter data from the Clinton campaign. In response, the DNC temporarily suspended Sanders' access to its entire database.

In a debate with Clinton, Sanders claimed that although "information came into our campaign," his staff "didn't go out and take it," a statement Politifact rated as mostly false
