President Donald Trump went on a tweet storm Friday to brag about job growth, manufacturing deals, and the adoring crowds who applauded him in West Virginia. But, the commander in chief was conspicuously silent about one of the biggest stories of the day: the new grand jury probe into Russia.

Throughout the morning on Twitter, Trump said:

But whereas Trump is usually ready to attack any negative news involving his administration, he did not say a word about Thursday’s report in The Wall Street Journal that special counsel Robert Muller has convened a grand jury in his probe of Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential race.

Rumors that the Russian government colluded with the Trump campaign last year have dragged on for months.

Prosecutors often use grand juries in criminal investigations, and the use of one suggests Mueller and his investigative team will demand documents and subpoena witnesses as the probe continues into Russia’s tampering and who was involved.

Trump did however address the Russia investigation on Thursday night as he spoke with cheering supporters in Huntington, West Virginia.

"Most people know there were no Russians in our campaign — there never were," Trump told the ecstatic crowd. "We didn't win because of Russia. We won because of you, that I can tell you."

"Have you seen any Russians in West Virginia or Ohio or Pennsylvania?" Trump continued, listing states he won last year before quizzing the crowd: "Are there any Russians here tonight? Any Russians?"

He added that Democrats are "trying to cheat you out of the future and the future that you want. They're trying to cheat you out of the leadership you want with a fake story that is demeaning to all of us. And most importantly, demeaning to our country and demeaning to our Constitution."
