Sen. Shaheen: Leaking Trump Transcripts Could Be For Good Reason

It is possible that leaks of President Donald Trump's conversations with world leaders could have been justified, according to Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H.

"When we have a president who tries to make national security policy or foreign policy through tweeting, then we have a problem, and my guess is that's why people are leaking this kind of information, because they want the public to know how serious this situation is," Shaheen said Thursday on MSNBC's "Hardball."

"My experience is that when people feel like they need to leak something like that, it's because they have concerns about what's going on," Shaheen said in the interview.

Shaheen was referring to leaked transcripts of phone conversations between Trump and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, as well as between Trump and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.

At another point in the interview, Shaheen slammed Trump for his comments about her state, in which the president called New Hampshire a "drug-infested den."

"We don't need insults. What we need is the president to provide help," Shaheen said.
