Donald Trump was nervous and his hands were shaking slightly during the first presidential debate against Hillary Clinton on Monday — and he appeared to look at family members for support, a New York psychotherapist and confidence expert says.

"I thought Trump showed nervousness. He was drinking water early on with hands that were shaking a little. Clinton also had nervous energy but it was contained in a different way," Karol Ward told The Independent.

In addition, she said, Trump "seemed to look to where his family were seated. He seemed to be trying to get signals or reassurance, whereas Clinton looked out more at the crowd. It was almost as if he was looking for encouraging smiles."

Trump and Clinton will face off in two more debates — Oct. 9 at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. and Oct. 19 at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, Nev.
