President-elect Donald Trump hasn't had the best relationship with the press throughout his campaign, but the media has no need to fear a change in the typical media access afforded those covering the White House, the transition team says.

Sean Spicer, the senior communications adviser for Trump’s presidential team, told Fox News' Megyn Kelly on Thursday that Trump’s administration would "absolutely not" bounce reporters out because he has "a healthy belief in the First Amendment."

Trump has often criticized the press and called journalists out at campaign rallies for their reporting. In June, his security team removed a Politico journalist from a rally, and in August they kicked out a Univision anchor from his press conference.

But Spicer, a candidate to be the White House spokesperson, assures that won’t happen.

"He understands the role of president and the role of the White House," he told Kelly in response to a question on why Trump banned some journalists from the campaign. “T"hat's a vastly different view than being at a campaign rally that's paid for by the campaign, funded by him, by his own dollars out a private venue. He has the right to control access to that."

Trump has not held a press conference since the summer and, has only conducted three media interviews since being elected president on Nov. 8.
