Donald Trump Jr. said Monday he'd be "happy" to talk to the Senate Intelligence Committee about his 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer who promised to dish some dirt on Hillary Clinton.

The Bangor Daily News reported Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, issued the call to the panel after the New York Times reported Trump Jr., along with then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.

The younger Trump told the Times he'd met with Kremlin-connected Veselnitskaya at the request of an acquaintance, but denied he got any compromising information on the then-Democratic presidential nominee.

"After pleasantries were exchanged, the woman stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Ms. Clinton," Trump Jr. said.

"Her statements were vague, ambiguous and made no sense. No details or supporting information was provided or even offered. It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information."

The Senate Intelligence Committee is scheduled to begin its first interviews with Trump campaign officials later this week as it continues probing alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election, NBC News reported.
