The government is spying on a select group of journalists in an effort to find out who has been leaking classified information to the media, according to a new report.

The New York Post's John Crudele reported the Department of Justice has acquired a FISA court warrant to monitor the electronic communications of journalists who have received classified information from anonymous sources in recent months.

Crudele cites a source in the nation's capital who said the Trump administration believes three people in the White House, who previously worked under former President Barack Obama, are thought to be the leakers. There is also a retired high-ranking military officer who worked in intelligence who is suspected of getting information from those three White House sources and dishing it out to the media.

The White House sources, according to Crudele, have either been fired or will be fired.

The first few months of President Donald Trump's administration have been plagued by leaks and news stories that cite unnamed sources. In one of the more recent incidents, crime scene photos from the Manchester, England, terror bombing were leaked to The New York Times. That prompted British Prime Minister Theresa May to have a discussion with Trump about the two nations' intelligence sharing program.
