Democrats are engaging in "partisan games" with regard to former FBI director James Comey's dismissal, the White House said Thursday.

During the daily White House press briefing, principal deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended President Donald Trump's decision to fire Comey. When pressed about the details of the firing and whether people within the administration — including Vice President Mike Pence — were in the dark, she took the opportunity to turn on Democrats who have criticized Trump's action.

"Here's what Democrats said not long ago about Comey: Harry Reid said Comey should resign and be investigated by the Senate; Sen. Chuck Schumer said, 'I don't have confidence in him any longer'; Sen. Bernie Sanders said it would not be a bad thing for the American people if Comey resigned; Nancy Pelosi said Comey was not in the right job; Debbie Wasserman Schultz said she no longer thought Comey was able to serve in a credible way; Just yesterday, Rep. Maxine Waters said Hillary Clinton would have fired Comey," Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders added the only version of events regarding the Comey matter that has been consistent since the Tuesday firing is the one from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Democrats were calling for Comey's head last fall after he took another look at the Clinton email investigation, but this week they came to his defense and insinuated Trump fired him because he was pushing to move the Russia investigation further along.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders noted questions about the process of how the story came out and who knew about it ahead of time are lacking details.

"Look at the facts; the facts don't lie," she said. "Their statements are all right there. . . . The Democrats want to play partisan games, and I think that's the most glaring thing that's being left out of all of your process stories."
