The Democratic National Committee has hired former Uber executive Raffi Krikorian as its new chief technology officer, Recode reported.

Krikorian, former senior director of engineering who was at the fore of Uber's self-driving development, left the ride-sharing company in February.

Krikorian will be charged with a top-down redo and bolstering of the Democrats' entire technological stable and capabilities after suffering multiple hacks that resulted in a constant drip of leaks during the 2016 election season.

It's a strong move for DNC chair Tom Perez, who spoke of the need for a cybersecurity chief even before he got the job.

"I think this office should report directly to the chair and, among other responsibilities, have them proactively monitor the DNC for attacks and breaches and I think equally importantly, I want to make sure this chief cybersecurity officer is working with all of our state partners because I'm confident we can fortify the front door and prevent future breaches. At the same time, it's critically important all the windows are closed as well," Perez told Politico in January.
