Howard Dean Taking His 'Purple to Blue' Effort to Iowa

By    |   Friday, 16 Aug 2013 12:05 PM

Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean is heading to Iowa next week in an effort to build support for a push to get more Democrats elected to state houses and governorships.

The former presidential candidate and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee will be in Altoona Aug. 21 at the Iowa Federation of Labor Convention to promote a campaign spearheaded by Democracy for America, a group he founded to help Democrats turn more states blue.

According to Politico, a Dean aide said the group's so-called "Purple to Blue" program would focus on spreading the word about "the progressive values that . . . any candidate who runs in 2016 is going to have to have and is going to have to show that they are fighting for" to get elected.

"In addition to talking about the 'Purple to Blue' program and what that means and how that focus on state and house races can change and empower progressive Democrats across the country, he definitely will be talking about national subjects as well," the aide said of Dean's efforts.
