GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz continued to blame rival Donald Trump for being behind an article in The National Enquirer claiming the Texas senator had extramarital affairs with at least five women, saying the story was planted because Trump wanted to avoid debate on the issues facing the nation.

"This story is garbage," Cruz told Fox News' Shannon Bream on the "Fox News Sunday" program. "It is tabloid smear. It came from Donald Trump and his henchmen. The only person quoted on the record there is Roger Stone, the chief political adviser to Donald Trump."

Bream pointed out that Stone and Trump had a parting of ways, but Cruz denied that.

"Roger Stone remains the henchman, the hatchet man, the enforcer for Donald Trump," said Cruz. "He's pushing these attacks. By the way, he's been pushing them for many months online. These are complete made up lies. They're garbage. But, you know, it's indicative of just how low Donald Trump will go."

Trump, meanwhile, denied it all on ABC's "Good Morning America"

"For him to say I had something to do with it, try and put the shoe on the other foot is disgraceful," he told ABC's Jonathan Karl, but he did not condemn the story, telling Karl that he didn't care, "I mean, really, I don't care."

"It was their story, not my story," said Trump. "It was about Ted Cruz. I have no idea whether it was right or not. They have a good record of being right. I said I hope it's not right."

But Cruz, back on Fox, commented that National Enquirer CEO David Pecker "is a close friend of Donald Trump. They have endorsed Donald Trump for president and this entire campaign they've done two things, one, they praise Donald Trump at every turn."

Meanwhile, America is facing real problems, such as the economy and jobs, and want to discuss solutions, said Cruz, but Trump doesn't want to talk about them.

"He has no answers for how to bring jobs back to America," said Cruz. "He has no answers for how to keep America safe from radical islamic terrorism so instead he attacks my wife."
