Conway: Democrats Will 'Overplay Their Hand' by Blocking Nominees

Democrats will "overplay their hand" if they work to block President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet nominees, incoming presidential counsel Kellyanne Conway said Monday.

"They will be blamed just as they were blamed in the last couple election cycles on government-run health care, overplaying on ridiculous regulations, overplaying on taxes," Conway told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"They will be blamed. We won't be blamed."

The nominees have gone through about 70 hours of mock sessions, in which they've answered hundreds of questions, said Conway, and have already met with 87 senators, including 37 Democrats.

"We're trying to get our cabinet appointees confirmed," Conway said. "We deserve that respect and the president-elect deserves that type of swift action"

Conway noted that by the time President Barack Obama's first Inauguration Day came in 2009, seven of his nominees had been confirmed, followed by five more that week and another 13 by voice vote.

"Go back to 2001, where President George W. Bush had just endured a bruising election result where it went all the way to the Supreme Court," said Conway.

"It took five extra weeks to get a president, yet he was able to get nine of his cabinet appointees, including the secretary of State Defense, Commerce, Treasury, Agriculture, Education. This is the way the government must function."

Trump's cabinet picks, she continued, are "wildly successful businessmen and businesswomen like Linda McMahon and Wilbur Ross, Steven Mnuchin. These people created tens of thousands of jobs, have taken companies with a infusion of cash and leadership and creativity brought them around benefited economy and individual workers."

Democrats are also demanding financial information and tax returns from several cabinet nominees and agency appointees, and that is not in the "normal course" of approving them, said Conway.

"They are political peeping Toms" by looking into the tax records, said Conway.
