Conway Tells How Clinton Called Trump After Losing

Kellyanne Conway is opening up and revealing a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Hillary Clinton's concession call to President Donald Trump, ABC News is reporting.

During an appearance at the National Review Institute's Ideas Summing in Washington, the one-time campaign manager and now counselor to Trump recalled the "remarkable moment" Clinton called.

She said the timing had been arranged with Clinton's campaign manager Robby Mook the night before. But it all began to unfold when the Associated Press called the election a victory for Trump at 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 9.

"We had agreed the night before … that within 15 minutes of the AP calling the race for Secretary Clinton, they would wait 15 minutes and then she would take the podium and declare victory," she said. "So he was basically saying that you have 15 minutes, you have 15 minutes for Trump to get out there."

"And then he says in the event that Mr. Trump wins, Secretary Clinton will call him within 15 minutes of the AP," she said.

Huma Abedin, Clinton's longtime aide, called Conway just as the AP results came in.

"I say 'Hey Huma, what's up?'" Conway said. "And she's absolutely lovely, she really is. And she said 'Hey Kellyanne, Secretary Clinton would like to speak to Mr. Trump.'"

In an appearance on "60 Minutes" just days after the election, Trump had praised Clinton for the call.

"It was a lovely call and it was a tough call for her," Trump said. "I can imagine. Tougher for her than it would have been for me. I mean, for me, it would have been very, very difficult. She couldn't have been nicer. She just said, 'Congratulations, Donald, well done.'"
